What You Can Expect

Do I need photos of the building?

Yes. You have the choice of providing your own photos or having the artist take photos for you.

If you would like to provide the photos for your artwork, expect to take and submit anywhere from 20-50 images:

> 1-3 of a complete view of the building as you would like to see the finished artwork

> + as many photos as it takes to show the detail of the entire building. Starting at the top left, pan across and down in overlapping rows and columns to create a series of photos of every inch of the building. Better too many, than not enough.

> Plan to take the photos at a time when the building is in partial strong shadow. You will need a sunny day, and will pay attention to the building’s orientation.

> All photos must be taken at the same time.

> You will need to share the photos with the artist digitally, as an email attachment, a shared google docs file, or on a memory stick

Alternately, the artist can visit the site and take the photos for an additional fee, typically in the range of $50 per hour, including travel.

Most realtors have the advantage of already being in possession of all the photos necessary to create the piece, enjoying the built-in savings of approximately $150.

How long does it take?

Please allow appropriate time for the artist to complete the piece without the pressure of unrealistic deadlines.

Art is worthless if it doesn’t include the artist’s love and attention to detail.

Being rushed forces the artist to skimp on the part of the process that makes the work human.

Please allow 4 to 6 weeks from the time of contract.

Local commissions will be hand delivered. But those requiring shipping will need that much more time.

Rush jobs for a premium price can be negotiated, but are not assured.

Do I get to keep the original?

Yes, you get the original rendering.

And while you will be purchasing the copyright to the work, which allows you to do what you like with it, the artist reserves the right to use images of the artwork for promotional and portfolio purposes.

At your request, the artist will remove any identifying components such as house numbers and captions from the saved copy of the file at the time of sale.

Can I make copies?

Yes you can. You will receive the original artwork and will own the copyright, so you can make any copies you like.

Alternately, you can order a digital file of the piece, prints, and any other print materials from the artist at any time.

Will it be framed?

You will have the option of purchasing just the artwork, which will be rolled and packaged in a shipping tube. You can then decide how you would like to frame it at your own expense. This is the most popular option as it allows you to choose a frame to fit your decor.

Framing can be arranged for you, for an additional cost. This can range from about $20 and up for a store bought frame and packaging, all the way up to hundreds of dollars for a professionally framed piece of art.

Keep in mind that the latter can be quite expensive, and will add considerable time to the delivery. However, you may decide that the protection and quality offered by professional framing may be well worth the investment.

How much does this cost?

Original custom black and white ink, approx. 8″x10″ (suitable for 12″x16″ frame) renderings start at $500. Depending on the detail of the building and size of the piece, the cost can range up to $1,200.

But the average runs between $500-$750, with the higher end typically including photos by the artist, a store-bought frame and matting, one original ink rendering, and local delivery of the finished product.

Watercolour, professional framing, shipping, and expedited deadlines would, of course, be add-ons.

What kind of refund policy do you have?

Approval of the finished artwork constitutes your acceptance of the work and full payment is due immediately. The artist offers no warranty or refund beyond the purchaser’s final approval and payment.

If final approval is not granted, the purchaser forfeits the $250 deposit and the artist is not obligated to transfer ownership of the original artwork nor its copyright.

Commissioned artwork is a matter of trust on the part of both parties.

The artist can only offer samples of previous works and reputation as surety.

The purchaser can only offer a deposit and offer of full payment.

If the purchaser has a problem trusting the artist with this type of agreement, the purchaser is welcome to shop elsewhere.

How do I order a drawing?

Use the contact form below to contact the artist. You will receive a reply within 2 business days.

Expect to have a phone or zoom conversation to discuss the details. You will be asked to sign an agreement by email once everything has been decided.

Once the artist has received your non–refundable deposit payment of $250 by e-transfer, you will be notified of completion of your purchase within 4-6 weeks.

“Our kids grew up in that house, so leaving it hit us pretty hard. Love having this beautiful print as part of the new place – helps it feel more like home.”

yes, she loves the drawing of the house she grew up in, and
yes, she loves the drawing, and yes, she really is happy with it.)
